First Day

Fresh haircuts, tight new braids.
Back packs, lunch boxes.
New clothes, big smiles.
The alarm went off at 5.

Special breakfast, fruit smoothies.
Bus coming, brush teeth!
Teacher’s note, miss you.
Hugs for me and kisses too.

Pencils sharp, number two.
Quick prayer, last wave.
Bus here, doors close.
Suddenly, summer is

Gone.

“Have a great first day, my babies! I love you all!”
