Chambers on Regret

“…let the past sleep, but let it sleep in the sweet embrace of Christ, and let us go on into the invincible future with Him.” – Oswald Chambers104

Regret.  Paralyzing.  Stifling.  Game-ending regret.  Why is it the hardest person of all to forgive is the person looking back at us in the mirror?  But the economy of the Kingdom of God is one of grace, not judgment.  Jesus never asks us to be perfect.  He knows we can not.  He only asks we receive his grace when we fall, leave the past behind and rise again with him by our side.

No one had more to regret than St. Paul, but he refused to allow his well-intentioned, yet grievous mistakes of the past hobble his future.

“But one thing I do:  Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13 (NIV)

May God grant us the grace today to live free from regret, drinking deeply of the grace of Christ and moving forward into the “invincible future with him”.  Amen.
