Writer. Mom. Daydreamer. Dog's Best Friend.
“What cha doin?” my 15-year-old asked me one recent, beautiful morning as she ate her breakfast and I walked toward the back deck with my computer in my hand.
“I am going to my office,” I replied (rather smugly).
“Office?” she asked, as she raised a skeptical eyebrow because she knows I have no office. Not one with walls anyway.
“Yep. I’m going to write on the back deck. I have the best job in the world.”
“No thanks” she said. She, at 15, is rarely if ever impressed with me. I, it turns out, do not have swag.
“What? Why not?” I retorted. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would disagree.
“I would hate sitting all day,” she said.
“Oh, but you don’t sit all day,” I responded conspiratorially. “Sometimes, you get up and go get coffee!”
I looked at her for a moment and imagined her future. I saw her travelling the globe, passing out books to children in some distant land while wearing a flak jacket. She was fluent in whatever language they spoke. I saw her back in her tent scribbling in her journal, or maybe sketching their smiling faces in the margins.
And I was reminded that The Best Job in the World is different for everyone- just as it should be.
But, my Best Job is that of a writer. It is a dream come true. I have recently signed a book contract with Thomas Nelson Publishers for a devotional book tentatively entitled, Close to the Heart of Jesus; 40 Days Walking With the Savior. The release date is a long year away- April 9, 2014.
I am in the process of finishing the manuscript now. My deadline is the first of July.
This blog will continue to primarily focus on the Jewish Roots of Christianity, and Biblical history but occasionally I will take a moment to let everyone know how the book is progressing and maybe give my readers a glimpse into the process of bringing “my baby” to print.
I find that often people are very curious about the publishing process, so I am open to answer any questions I can. Feel free to ask in the comment section!
As always, thanks for reading. May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…
