What Makes God Angry?

Last night, I watched my youngest daughter get tripped hard on the soccer field. Twice.

The first time, I winced and let it slide. The second time, I had to get up and walk it off.

I have watched a lot of soccer over the years. I am accustomed to assessing injuries and breaking out ice packs after the game. It is a brutal sport.

But there is something about watching another kid take a cheap shot at my son or daughter that awakens the mama bear in me. Before I know it, I had better go take a walk or something socially inappropriate is going down!

Did you know God feels much the same way when he sees his child suffering oppression? Listen to the words of Psalm 18…

In my distress I called to the Lord;
    I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
    my cry came before him, into his ears.
The earth trembled and quaked,
    and the foundations of the mountains shook;
    they trembled because he was angry.

Psalm 18:6&7

We do not serve a callous God who set the world into motion, got bored, and walked away. Our God intimately cares about our suffering. He is a loving Father who delights in us (Psalm 18:19) and His ear is attentive to our cry (Psalm 34:15)
